Mavs Out of Last Place

June 22, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Mid-Missouri Mavericks News Release

It may only last a day. It may last longer. But for the first time since the beginning of the 2004 season, the Mavericks are NOT in last place.

With a 6 - 3 win over the Florence Freedom yesterday afternoon, the Mavericks record improved to 8 - 16 on the season. Couple the Mavs' win with a Windy City loss, and the Mavericks find themselves 1/2 game up on the Thunderbolts, good enough for fifth place in the Frontier League's West Division.

Playing an afternoon game in front of 1,036 at Florence's Champion Window Field, Mavericks' newly acquired pitcher Mike Schaffer scattered 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings of work to pick up his first victory as a Maverick. Cooper Eddy came on in the seventh to close out the game and pick up his second save of the 2005 season.

After the Freedom tied the score at 2 in the bottom of the third, the Mavericks tallied a single run in each of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th innings and held on for the 6 - 3 win. Eli Albertson finished the game 3 for 5, with 2 runs scored. Greg Buscher and Brent Metheny each had two hits in the game, and both extended their hitting streaks to nine games. Thomari Story- Harden, back after missing Sunday's game on bereavement leave, smacked his fifth round-tripper of the season.

The Mavericks and the Freedom play the second of a three game set, tonight at 6PM. You can hear all of the action live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.
