June 11, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Richmond Roosters News Release

The Richmond Roosters earned a split with the Cook County Cheetahs on Wednesday afternoon as they won 10-2 behind the strong pitching of Chris Spigner. The Cheetahs had been victorious in Tuesday's rain shortened opener by beating the Roosters 4-2. The series featured the first weekday afternoon game in the team's nine-year history of McBride Stadium as the team started Wednesday's game at 11:35 as part of its "Kids Day Out" promotion.

Tuesday's game featured a strong pitching match-up between two of the league's best starters in Richmond's Curt Moenter and Cook County's James Clellend. Both pitchers entered the evening without a loss and with ERA's under 2.00. Clellend had pitched complete games in two of his first three starts. Richmond took an early 2-0 lead but was unable to hang on as Cook County outfielder Mark Walker gave them a 3-2 lead on a two-run homer in the fourth inning. The final score was 4-2 in favor of the Cheetahs, in a game called in the bottom of the eigth due to rain.

Wednesday's game saw a new Frontier League record established as RHP Chris Spigner extended his continuous innings without a run streak to 28 innings before giving up a two out RBI double in the top of the sixth inning. The day was full of positives for the Roosters, who dominated from the start. Richmond was able to score three runs in the first inning, more than enough for starter Chris Spigner, who extended his record to 4-0. The Rooster's offense scored ten runs on twelve hits thanks to a five run outburst in the bottom of the seventh.

Richmond is in action again Thursday as the Kenosha Mammoths visit McBride Stadium for a pair of games starting at 6:35 PM. Thursday's game will feature the second Jeff Pohlman Tire and Auto Center photo giveaway of the season. Rooster second baseman Key Voshell will be featured on the player photo autograph sheets. Hoosier Lottery joins the Roosters on Friday night with scratch off cards for lucky fans, as well as other Lottery prizes.

Friday night will also start off the Tide Laundry Product's Richmond Roosters Laundry Weekends. Bring a Tide proof of purchase, along with your netted laundry to Friday nights game and you will receive a special two for one ticket price. Leave your laundry, and pick it up...Tide Clean... as you use the second half of your two for one ticket on Saturday night. Richmond Roosters baseball and Tide Clean laundry!
