
Roosters Explode Past Mavericks

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters beat the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 15-3 on Wednesday night at McBride Stadium. The teams traded runs for several innings before Richmond broke out in the sixth and seventh with 11 combined runs. The Roosters are now only five games out of the last playoff spot in the East.
Gerald Miller led off the game by working a walk. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on a groundout by Mike Reese. Another run scored when Kevin White blooped a single down the right field line that scored Tony Sanguinetti and gave Richmond a 2-0 lead after the first. The Mavericks tied it up in the third on a two-run homer by Brent Metheny, but the Roosters took the lead again in their half of the third on a solo homer by Nate Gravley that made it 3-2. Mid-Missouri tied it again in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Alex Derhak that scored Brett Winn.
Richmond took its third lead of the night in the fifth when Gerald Miller scored for the second time on a groundout by Mike Reese. The Roosters took control from that point on, scoring five runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh to blow the game wide open. Dick Daly, Jr. hit a solo home run, Mike Bidwell had a two-run homer and Tony Sanguinetti had a three-run homer in the two innings to help put out front for good at 15-3. Mike Reese and Tony Sanguinetti each had four RBI in the game to lead the offense. Mike Cervera (1-0) earned the win and became the first starting pitcher other than Matt Schweitzer, Tony Casoli, or Jared Howton to win a game for Richmond in exactly two months. Pete Eberhardt (0-1) took the loss for the Mavericks.
The Roosters (32-32) and Mavericks (21-41) will continue their series on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (7-2, 3.57 ERA) will take the mound for Richmond against Damien Dantibo (2-0, 4.00 ERA) for Mid-Missouri.
