'Hawks lose second straight

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Rockford RiverHawks left at least one man on base in each of the first eight innings in a 6-3 loss to Chillicothe Thursday night

Scott Lefler either drove in or scored each of the Paints' first four runs, finishing the night 2-for-3 with three RBI. After Rockford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, the Paints tied the game in the second on a two-run homer by Lefler.

Chillicothe put up two more in the fourth when Lefler doubled home a run and later scored on a wild pitch thrown by ‘Hawks' starter Frank James.

James (1-2) took the loss, going seven innings while allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits. Chillicothe's Perry Cunningham (6-4) threw six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits for the win. Ryan Rafferty hurled a scoreless ninth for his third save and his second in as many nights.

Rockford made it a 4-3 game after they loaded the bases with two out in the sixth. Cunningham made an errant pickoff throw to second, allowing Ashley Farr to come home from third base.

Three batters after Josh Ury led off the seventh with a triple, Jose Rodriguez successfully executed a suicide squeeze to give the Paints a 5-3 advantage. With two out in the eighth, Doug Dreher hit a pinch-hit double and scored on a single by Ury in the next at-bat to make it 6-3.

Aaron McEachran was a last-minute scratch because of a pulled neck muscle. He has not played in the last three games.

The RiverHawks conclue their series in Chillicothe at 6:05 p.m. Friday. Rockford returns to Marinelli Field on Tuesday, August 9th, to begin a three-game homestand against Kalamazoo.
