Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Monday, the Central Hockey League announced that Rapid City Rush rookie forward Winston Day Chief earned Oakley CHL Player of the Week honors for the term ending February 24th. This marks the second weekly award for the Rush this season as Tim Boron was named Goaltender of the Week back on January 15th. In recognition of his achievement, Day Chief will receive a special gift from Oakley.

The Standoff, Alberta native earned points in all four of Rapid City's games last week, all victories. He totaled three goals, two of which were game-winners, and one assist.

"Being named player of the week was actually quite surprising," said Day Chief. "The team's success as of late, I think, may have something to do with this. Winning our last four games feels pretty good and we owe a lot to our great fan support here in the Black Hills especially playing in our barn."

Day Chief currently has the second longest active point streak in the CHL at six games. Thanks to performances by players like Day Chief, the Rapid City Rush has won four straight games and six of their last seven moving into sole possession of fourth place.

The 24-year-old rookie forward has six goals and seven assists on the season for Rapid City in 25 games played. Half of his goal total has accounted as the game winning goal (3). Day Chief is currently riding a six-game point streak, the longest of the season for the franchise.

Day Chief played collegiate hockey his freshman year for the University of Alaska-Anchorage, and his remaining three years for the University of Lethbridge. Over his college career, Day Chief played in a total of 95 games in which he scored 27 goals and contributed 41 assists (68 points). Last season, the 6-2, 190-pound forward played four games in the post-season for the Rush as an amateur player.
