Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced on Monday that the United Hockey League club has signed rookie winger Josh Hechter for the upcoming 2006-07 season. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Hechter is the sixth rookie to sign on with Rockford for the new season. The 5-10 winger played for St. Anselm College (NCAA), in Manchester, NH, the past three seasons, leading the Hawks in scoring the past two. In 2005-06, Hechter notched 14 goals while helping with 26 others.

"Josh was a star in college at the Division II level," said Martinson. "Jason Deitsch proved last season that these guys not only can play, but be top caliber players."

Deitsch was the UHL's rookie of the year last season while skating with the Kalamazoo Wings and is an alumnus of St. Norbert's University (NCAA), another Division II hockey school. Hechter's top season statistically came during his sophomore season when the Winnipeg, Manitoba native scored 15 goals with 31 assists and 46 points.

St. Anselm is a member of the ECAC East Conference and the school finished with its highest win total in school history each of Hechter's three campaigns there. The Hawks top win total came during Hechter's freshman season when they won 20 contests for the first time in school history.

With Hechter signed, the IceHogs now have 16 players set for training camp that will open on Monday, Oct. 2.
