Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - On Thursday, September 21st 22 players opened up the Peoria Rivermen's 2006-07 Training Camp at Carver Arena in Peoria, Ill. Among them were three signees with the Bloomington PrairieThunder - former Rivermen captain and current PrairieThunder player/coach Trevor Baker, as well as Jeff Mushaluk and Brock Becker.
Baker, recently named one of the 25 Greatest Rivermen of All-Time, presented by U.S. Cellular, was a late addition to the camp roster from the United Hockey League's PrairieThunder squad. Baker is entering his eighth professional season, and is second all-time in Rivermen franchise history in penalty minutes (PIM-1099) and is tied for eighth in the Rivermen record books in games played with 352. Baker's 352 games came over six Rivermen ECHL seasons.
Second-year defensemen Mushaluk and rookie left wing Becker are both attending as camp invitees. Mushaluk is a recent September signee with the PrairieThunder, while Becker inked with the team in early August.
The Rivermen hosted the Chicago Wolves in preseason action on Saturday, September 23 at Carver Arena, where Mushaluk notched a goal in the second period of the game. PrairieThunder Head Coach Derek Booth is pleased to see three of the PrairieThunder's acquisitions given the chance to attend the Rivermen training camp.
"It's a great opportunity for some of our players to be able to attend an AHL pre-season training camp," said Booth. "Jeff (Mushaluk) had a very good game on Saturday. He scored a goal in the game against Chicago and showed he can compete at that level."
"Trevor (Baker) did a good job as well," Baker continued. "He was playing regular shift at the end of the game, and had a solid showing. Brock (Becker) is learning the ropes of the next level right now. He is really out there trying to compete and show what he's got."
Pre-season action continues Tuesday, September 26, when Peoria faces off against the Iowa Stars at 7:00 p.m. in Carver Arena. The Bloomington PrairieThunder open their season October 13th on the road against Muskegon. The team's inaugural home opener is slated for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, October 14th against Fort Wayne at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tickets are available for the game by contacting the Coliseum box office at 309-434-2678, or toll free at 1-866-891-9992, or visiting online at www.prairiethunderhockey.com.
