Rookie Paul Caponigri Signed

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls announced Wednesday the signing of rookie left-winger Paul Caponigri. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Caponigri, 24, comes to the Gulls after spending the last four years at Ohio State University (2000-2004). During his tenure with the Buckeyes, he accumulated 132 points (53g, 79a) in 154 games. Caponigri led the Buckeyes with 17 goals and 39 points this season. He and fellow Gulls rookie Eric Skaug were teammates at Ohio State for three seasons (2000-2003).

Prior to his collegiate career, the 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pounder from Oak Park, Ill played three seasons in juniors with the United States Hockey League's Omaha Lancers. Caponigri led Omaha with 61 points in 1999-00 and is first in Lancer team history with 157 career games played.

Caponigri will make his Gulls and professional debut tonight against the Las Vegas Wranglers. He will wear No. 9.
