Sioux Falls, SD - Ari Ronick delivered a strong effort on the mound and got plenty of run support early as the RailCats avoided a sweep at Sioux Falls with a 9-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. With the victory the RailCats finish their road trip at 2-5 and improve to 35-26, while Sioux Falls falls to 26-36 for the year.

Ronick allowed three hits over the first two innings then went on a run of 15 consecutive batters retired before his removal after the seventh inning. Ronick allowed just one run on three hits and did not walk a batter in a start for the second time this season.

The RailCats scored a pair in the top of the first. With two out, Ryan Babineau hammered a double to center to score Mike Massaro. Babineau then scored on Christian Vitters' RBI single to left; to make it 2-0 RailCats.

Sioux Falls got back-to-back hits to begin the game against Ari Ronick. Nick Van Stratten doubled then scored on Marcos Rodriguez's single to left. Klein's throw from left was in time to get the runner, but Van Stratten jarred the ball loose from Ryan Babineau. It was 2-1 after one inning.

Adam Champion was chased from the game in the third inning after surrendering run scoring hits to Christian Vitters and Cristian Guerrero. The RailCats led 6-1 after the top of the third.

Champion allowed six runs on eight hits in two and a â..." innings. He was charged with his seventh loss of the season.

Cristian Guerrero recorded his first multi-hit game since July 8 with a second run-scoring hit in the top of the fifth. That made it 7-1 RailCats.

In the eighth, Mike Massaro singled to left with the bases loaded for his fourth hit of the day. The single scored two more for the RailCats to give them the 9-1 advantage.

The RailCats had four different players record multi-hit game including Mike Massaro who recorded his 26th multi-hit game of the year.

RailCats pitching retired 20 in a row from the beginning of the third into the ninth inning as Ronick, Estevan Uriegas and Kyle Lindquist contributed to the streak.

The RailCats return home for a four game set with Sioux City beginning on Monday. RHP Stephen Hiscock will start for the RailCats (0-1, 3.91), the Explorers will send RHP Preston Olson (1-3, 6.35 ERA). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
