Rome Earns Split with 9-3 Win

August 14, 2004 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

It was billed as a potential pitching dual but only Rome starter, Chuck James lived up to the billing. James (10-2) allowed Lexington just a run on five hits in five innings in the Braves 9-3 win Saturday night. Mitch Talbot, who had been brilliant in his last three starts, lasted just four innings. Talbot allowed seven runs on eight hits to suffer his 8th loss of the year.

It wasn't just pitching for Rome, they brought the offense too. The nine runs were produced by 12 hits, including two home runs. Scott Schade belted a 3-run shot in the fourth inning and Jarrod Saltalamacchia connected on a solo home run.

The Legends managed just nine hits with Justin Humphries, Freddy Acevedo and Chad Prosser collecting two each. Humphries had two RBI including an RBI single in the first inning and a solo homer in the ninth. Prosser singled in a run in the ninth as well.

The Legends split the series with Rome at 2-2. The Braves now lead the all-time series 5-3. Lexington's record against the Southern Division now stands at 18-10 with four games left in 2004.

The Legends welcome Columbus to Applebee's Park on Sunday evening. Robert Stiehl will face Julio Pimentel in the 6:05 first pitch. The Summit Mortgage Pre-game Show will kick off the broadcast at 5:50 on the Legends Radio Network.
