
Romanski Helps Power the RailCats Past the Canaries 8-3

GARY, IN- The Gary South Shore RailCats had not had a four RBI night this season from one of their big bats until Tuesday night. Powered by Josh Romanski who went three for four with four driven in and Stephen Hiscock who tossed another quality start the RailCats beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-3 at US Steel Yard.
Romanski got in the act in the second off of Canaries starter Kyle Vazquez. Craig Maddox doubled to start the inning then moved to third on a Wally Backman ground ball to second. With one out Romanski singled to bring in the RailCats first run and it was 1-0. In the second the RailCats got Zac Mitchell to third after a fielder's choice and he would come home on a sac fly from Craig Maddox to make it 2-0.
Stephen Hiscock held Sioux Falls in check through five allowing two hits and a walk taking a 2-0 lead into the sixth. In the sixth Sioux Falls picked up a leadoff double by Steve Tinoco and a single by Brandon Jones. With a runner at third Chris Valencia hit a sac fly to center off of Hiscock to cut the lead to 2-1.
The RailCats would answer with a three run sixth with Romanski again providing the big spark. Craig Maddox reached on a fielder's choice and was followed by Wally Backman who walked with one out off of Vazquez. Josh Romanski then shot a triple down the first base line into the corner to clear the bases and score two to make it 4-1 RailCats. Ryan Brockett followed with a safety squeeze to bunt Romanski home and the RailCats led the game 5-1.
Sioux Falls came back to score two and chase Hiscock from the game in the seventh. Chris Duffy had his fourth RBI of the series with a solo homer to lead off the inning to cut the lead to 5-2. Stephen Branca doubled and that would be it for Hiscock. Ethan Gibbons came in for the RailCats and was moved to third on a fly ball to right field by Sam Lind. Kevin Dultz then hit a ground ball to deep short for out number two but scored Branca to make it 5-2.
The RailCats again with Romanski leading the charge this time off of reliever Kyle Winter picked up three more in the eighth. Wally Backman walked to start the inning. Josh Romanski then doubled to bring home Backman for his fourth RBI of the night. Brockett then put down a sac bunt his second as well to move Romanski to third. Facing the team he began the year with Drew Muren hit a two run homerun to make it 8-3 RailCats.
Gary got two solid innings from Ethan Gibbons and Kevin Brahney worked a 1-2-3 ninth to finish the game. Stephen Hiscock got the win to even his record at (3-3) and tossed his sixth quality start for the South Shore while the loss went to Vazquez who fell to (2-3). The two teams will play game three Wednesday night with LHP Joe Bircher (1-3, 3.92) going for the Canaries while the RailCats will send out former South Dakota State University product Stephen Bougher (2-2, 3.27).
