June 20, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Medford Rogues News Release
KITSAP, WA - Medford and Kitsap both got on the board early in the game, scoring two runs apiece in the first inning. Solid pitching by both starters prevented anymore runs from crossing the plate until the bottom of the tenth inning. The BlueJackets were able to pull off the 3-2 win on a walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth inning.
Derron Davis led off in the top of the first inning for the Medford Rogues and reached base on a single. He was then joined on the basepath by Daniel Patzlaff. Nathan Etheridge hit another single, which loaded the bases in the top of the first. Billy Frederick then hit a groundball to the shortstop, Leo Valenti, who committed an error on the throw, bringing in Davis and Patzlaff. The Rogues jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead.
Kitsap answered in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own. Rogues starter, Taylor Johnson, hit the lead off batter, Kyle Nobach, then Jake Scudder reached base on a single. Nobach then crossed the plate on an RBI single by Mitchell Robinson and Scudder scored on the sacrifice fly by Leo Valenti. The BlueJackets tied things up with the Rogues, 2-2 in the bottom of the first.
It was then a pitcher's game for the next nine innings. Both pitchers, Johnson for Medford and Adam Cline for Kitsap were very strong on the mound. The Rogues were only able to reach base four times between the second and tenth innings. Cline went eight innings, gave up six hits, walked two and struck out six.
The BlueJackets reached base ten times between the second and tenth innings but Rogues defense kept them from scoring. Medford had one successful pickoff attempt at first base, turned a double play and caught two BlueJackets stealing.
Medford and Kitsap went into extra innings after remaining tied at 2 after nine innings. In the top of the tenth inning, the Rogues were able to reach base on a lead off single by T.K. McWhertor but the next three batters were retired, and the two teams went into the bottom of the tenth inning, still tied at 2.
In the bottom of the tenth, D.J. Wilson was on the bump in relief for Medford. Wilson walked the leadoff batter for the BlueJackets, Kyle Nobach, and Jake Scudder then reached off an error. Wilson intentionally walked Brett Bautista, loading the bases. Mitchell Robinson then stepped up and hit a sacrifice fly to right field, Nobach tagged up at third base and made it safely home, scoring the winning run for the BlueJackets. Kitsap beat Medford off a walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth inning, 3-2.
The Rogues are back in action on Monday night at Harry and David Field to face Top Speed Academy at 6:35pm. Tickets can be purchased at www.medfordrogues.com.
