
Rogues Break Slump

Kitsap, WA - After falling to the BlueJackets in game one of their series, the Rogues were able to battle until the bottom of the ninth inning to get their first win on their road trip. Great pitching by the starter for Kitsap, Nate Simmons, kept Rogues batters at bay until Medford started scoring and hitting in the sixth inning. The BlueJackets scored early but a rally in the seventh inning and then again in the top of the ninth propelled the Rogues to their first win over Kitsap, 7-6.
Rogues batters had trouble facing Nate Simmons the starting pitcher for the BlueJackets. Medford had one hit through the first five innings of the game and two baserunners. Kitsap got on the board early with a leadoff double by Kyle Nobach who was then brought in by an RBI single by Jake Scudder, and the BlueJackets led the Rogues, 1-0 after the first inning.
Kitsap scored two more runs in the fourth inning off of four hits. Scudder had a leadoff single then Leo Valenti hit a two-out single to join Scudder on the base path. A single by Tyrus Greene brought them both in and the BlueJackets jumped out to 3-0 lead. Kitsap scored again in the fifth inning off another lead off single by Scudder who was then able to cross the plate off an RBI single by Mitchell Robinson.
In the sixth inning, the Rogues were able to capitalize on walks and fielder's choice plays by the BlueJackets. Derron Davis reached base on a walk then was brought in to score the Rogues' first run by an RBI single by Billy Frederick. Frederick then moved to second after Andrew Martinez reached on a fielder's choice. Frederick then scored after Chris DeVito had an RBI single to right field. The Rogues still trailed the BlueJackets 4-2 after six innings.
Medford scored another three runs in the top of the seventh inning after Jimmy Wright had a lead off walk. Then J.J. Kitaoka made it to first base by an error on the first baseman, followed by a single by Daniel Patzlaff. Wright and Kitaoka then scored on an RBI single by Derron Davis, making it a tie ballgame at 4-4. John Kinne broke the tie with a sacrifice bunt, bringing in Patzlaff to put the Rogues on top, 5-4.
Kitsap scored one more run in the seventh inning off an RBI single by Brett Bautista, scoring Kyle Nobach who was hit by a pitch, tying the Rogues and Bluejackets at 5-5. Kitsap also scored again in the bottom of the eighth after Justin Beck hit a two-out single to get on base. Nobach then stepped up and had an RBI single, breaking the tie and putting the BlueJackets back on top, 6-5.
The Rogues answered in the top of the ninth, with two runs on three hits. John Kinne was the first to reach base on a single, followed by a Billy Frederick single. With runners on first and second, Andrew Martinez was then able to drive in both runs with an RBI single of his own, putting the Rogues on top, 7-6. Kitsap was unable to answer in the bottom of the ninth and the Rogues ended their seven game losing streak, beating the BlueJackets, 7-6.
The BlueJackets and Rogues face off in game three Saturday night at 6:35pm. The Rogues will be back in Medford to play Top Speed Academy on Monday night at Harry and David Field at 6:35pm.
