Victoria HabourCats News Release
The Victoria HarbourCats scored in bunches, but in the end not enough runs to overcome the bushels they allowed in an 11-8 loss to the Cowlitz Black Bears on Friday night at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP.
The crowd of 1,577 saw the HarbourCats fall behind early thanks to an outfield throwing error and a dropped ball at home plate, trailing 7-4 into the sixth inning. But a four-run sixth switched the lead, only to have Cowlitz respond with a run in the top of the seventh.. Cowlitz then scored three times off reliever Josh Mitchell in the 10th inning, spoiling the return of Alex DeGoti and the stron debut of Oregon State third baseman Michael Gretler, a Boston Red Sox draft choice who hit a home run in his first at-bat and finished 2-4 with two runs, two driven in and a walk.
PJ Floyd was 2-3, and Jackson Thoreson was 2-4 as the HarbourCats saw their record fall to 5-8.
Newly-signed pitcher Luke Manuel, a former Team Canada junior, is scheduled to make his HarbourCats debut on Saturday -- a 6:35pm start (5:30pm gates) on Anawim/McGregor Sock Toss Night.
Father's Day is a big day game, with a 1pm start, sponsored by Outlooks for Men.
