Victoria HabourCats News Release
The Victoria HarbourCats hope they are getting their losses -- and their walks -- out of their system early.
Seven untimely walks helped Cowlitz build an early lead en route to a 12-8 victory in front of 2,107 at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP on Saturday night -- in the inaugural Sock Toss for Anawim House, sponsored by ISN and McGregor Socks.
Newly-signed righty Luke Manuel was given a rude greeting, giving up six hits and five runs in being lifted early in the third inning.
Josh Johnson was the winning pitcher for the Black Bears
Slate Miller and Loren Archibald hit home runs for the Black Bears, while Jake Pries and Kyle Francis notched their first homers of the season for the HarbourCats, who scored five times in the eighth inning to bring suspense back to the game and liven up the strong crowd.
Cowlitz outhit Victoria 14-9, but made two errors, one more than the HarbourCats.
The HarbourCats fell to 5-9 on the season, and will get a chance to bounce back on Sunday in the Outlooks for Men Father's Day Classic -- with great prizes from Outlooks for Men. Ticket pre-sales have been strong as the HarbourCats, who lead the West Coast League in attendance with an average of 2,028 per game, look to build on their brand of great local affordable entertainment, led by local ownership.
