Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Jupiter, Fla. - Roger Dean Stadium, Bank of America and the Palm Beach County Food Bank are teaming up again to Strike Out Hunger in Palm Beach County. The food drive will be taking place from June 8 through June 27 culminating with the Daytona Tortugas taking on the Palm Beach Cardinals on Saturday, June 27. This Florida State League matchup is scheduled to begin at 5:35 p.m.
Those fans who make a donation of a non-perishable food item will receive a free ticket to the June 27 game. If you are looking to make a donation, you may do so at the Abacoa or Chasewood Plaza Bank of America locations in Jupiter or at the Roger Dean Stadium Ticket Office.
"We are proud to partner with Bank of America and the Palm Beach County Food Bank for the second year in a row," said Mike Bauer, general manager of Roger Dean Stadium. "We hope that our food drive will, in a small way, help our neighbors in Palm Beach County."
According to the Palm Beach County Food Bank, the most needed non-perishable items include: canned meat and seafood, plastic jars of peanut butter, boxes of macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables and fruit, canned soups or chili, boxes of cereal, boxed juice or shelf stable milk, boxes of rice or beans and boxes of pasta.
"We are so grateful to both Bank of America and Roger Dean Stadium for this partnership and their support to help fight hunger in our community," said Perry Borman, executive director of Palm Beach County Food Bank. "Many families struggle to put food on their tables - so every donation counts. The Strike Out Hunger food drive is important since children are out of school during the summer and are not accessing school meals. The needs in the community are the highest this time of year."
In Palm Beach County, there are more than 100 agencies that feed tens of thousands of hungry children, families and senior citizens. The Palm Beach County Food Bank provides food to these agencies from Tequesta to Boca Raton and west to Belle Glade and Pahokee.
A non-profit organization, the Palm Beach County Food Bank rescues, collects and distributes food to agencies that take on the daily responsibility of feeding the hungry. With the support of Bank of America and Roger Dean Stadium, the Food Bank can make a difference in the lives of children, families and seniors in the Palm Beach County community.
"Bank of America is honored to contribute to this event and shine a light on the importance of hunger and its impact on families in Palm Beach County," said Fabiola Brumley, Palm Beach County Market President. "As a community member, we truly value the opportunity of this partnership and look forward to having our employees and neighbors make this an overwhelming success."
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. for the 5:35 p.m. game on June 27. Tickets will be distributed at the three donation sites with the donation of a non-perishable food item starting on June 8. The main office at Roger Dean Stadium will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to collect food items.
