Charlotte Knights News Release
Fort Mill, SC - Relievers Santos Rodriguez and Daniel Webb have both been promoted to the Charlotte Knights from Double-A Birmingham today. The two young relievers will take the roster spots of pitchers Michael Nix and Dan Remenowsky, who were both sent to Birmingham. With the moves, the Knights roster is currently at 25 active players.
Rodriguez, a member of the White Sox 40-man roster, began the 2013 season on Charlotte's disabled list. On April 20, he was activated off the DL and assigned to Birmingham. Since then, he has excelled with the Barons. The Dominican native posted a 1-0 record with a 2.35 ERA in 15 games for Birmingham this season.
The 25-year-old left-hander returns to the Knights after appearing in five games with the club last season. He went 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA for Charlotte down the stretch. Rodriguez was 2-4 with a 2.81 ERA and eight saves for the Barons in 2012 over 37 games.
Joining Rodriguez in the Charlotte bullpen will be Webb, who was 0-0 with a 1.77 ERA in 13 games for the Barons this season. In 20.1 innings pitched, Webb struck-out 21 batters and allowed just 11 hits.
Webb, 23, was an 18th round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2009 draft. After spending two seasons in the Toronto system, Webb was acquired by the White Sox on January 1, 2012 in the deal that sent reliever Jason Frasor to the Blue Jays.
Nix (1-0, 5.40) made his Charlotte debut on Sunday, June 16 at Knights Stadium and earned his first win after allowing three runs over five innings. For Nix, it was his first start in the International League since 2008 and first in affiliated baseball since 2009. The Auburn University product spent parts of the past five seasons in the Independent Atlantic League. He was named the Atlantic League pitcher of the month for May on Thursday. Nix was 5-0 with a 1.81 ERA in eight games for Sugar Land this season before signing with the White Sox on June 7.
Remenowsky, 27, was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 10 appearances for the Knights this season. The Ohio native began the 2012 season with the Barons and compiled a 1-3 mark with a 2.15 ERA and three saves over 25 games.
