Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens piled them on in front of a sellout crowd Friday night at Fifth Third Field to defeat Pawtucket 8-5 in the first meeting between both squads this season.

Mitch Maier struck first for Pawtucket after his RBI double in the first grabbed a 1-0 lead for the visitors. The lead was then extended to 2-0 in the fourth when Brandon Snyder scored on a mishandled grounder past Gustavo Nunez at short.

The Hens failed to rack up a hit until the bottom of the fourth when Danny Worth tripled, and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Danny Dorn to cut the lead in half. Ben Guez evened the score later in the inning when he delivered a clutch RBI single to score Jordan Lennerton and knot it at 2-2.

The tie was broken in the fifth courtesy of Toledo after Worth singled in a run with no outs to make it 3-2. Later in the inning with two outs, Dorn blasted a double into the gap to pick up two more RBI and push the Hens' lead to 5-2.

Xander Bogaerts narrowed the lead with a solo shot to left in the sixth to make it a two-run game, but the Hens tacked on three more late runs, and Matt Hoffman and the bullpen combined to allow only two runs to secure the victory for Toledo.

The Hens will look for their second straight victory tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. behind Robbie Weinhardt (2-0, 3.90), who will be making his first start this season for Toledo.
