Toronto Rock News Release

The School House Rock program runs for 14 weeks during the Rock regular season and is designed to provide a positive interaction between the students and the Toronto Rock players in the region.

This year's program focuses on a healthy eating and an active lifestyle/exercise message with a strong emphasis on the importance of teamwork throughout the presentation. Nowadays, it seems as though video games and television seem to dominate the free time of our youth. The School House Rock program aims to get through to these kids by suggesting alternative ways to spend their free-time and offering fun and healthier options to sitting around indoors in front of a TV or computer.

By bringing a couple of professional athletes to their school and not just "teaching" or "talking" to them, the students involved are bound to be motivated and inspired by these "role models." The Toronto Rock players hold full time jobs while they play lacrosse part-time, which includes traveling on weekends, game nights, practicing and daily intense workouts. This makes the Toronto Rock athletes ideal role models for these young students. Reigning National Lacrosse League MVP and leading scorer Colin Doyle and standout defenceman Chris Driscoll are the two primary player representatives for the School House Rock in 2006.

Students are taught in a fun setting to assist in delivery a clear message, as this program involves the students through interactive teaching methods providing a strong teamwork and healthy-living message, lacrosse demonstrations, a question and answer period, short action-packed video, a lacrosse trivia portion, cheer sessions and player autographs.

The School House Rock program is free for schools looking to participate and geared towards students in middle school, primarily Grades 4-8. It is developed in a way that is a fun and unique way for the Toronto Rock to stay involved within the community and to bring healthy messages to our young students!
