Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting forward Craig Conn has been named the National Lacrosse League's Offensive and Overall Player of the Week for Week #6 of the season. Against the Colorado Mammoth on Friday, Conn scored eight goals and added three assists for eleven points in Arizona's 18-17 overtime loss. His goal and point totals were both career highs. Sting Head Coach/General Manager Bob Hamley has been pleased with Conn thus far in 2006.
"Craig has been playing extremely well for us," said Hamley. "He knows how to put the ball in the net and he has a great work ethic out on the floor."
Acquired by Arizona in a trade with the Minnesota Swarm on March 24, 2005, Conn registered 5GP-6G-5A-11P for the Sting down the home stretch of the 2005 regular season. In the '05 playoffs, he led the NLL in scoring with 12G-7A-19P in three games as the Sting captured the West Division Championship. So far this season, Conn has tallied 16G-7A-23P in only four games; he has also scooped up an impressive 31 loose balls on the year. His '06 goal total places him second in the league behind Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant. The two will square off this Saturday, February 11 at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial in Rochester as the Sting and Knighthawks take part in a battle of division leaders.
In other NLL news, Minnesota goalie Nick Patterson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after holding the Edmonton Rush to six goals in a 7-6 road win for Minnesota in Week #6. With the win, Patterson improved to 3-0 on the season. Also, Colorado Mammoth forward Dan Carey was named the NLL's Rookie of the Week for Week #6.
