Sting Signs Arizona Native

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting General Manager and Head Coach Bob Hamley announced today the Sting have signed Paradise Valley native David Gerbarg, the team's fifth choice in the 2007 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft. The team has also signed draft picks Jamie Pilon and Scott Janssen.

Gerbarg, who was selected by the Sting in the 6th round (81st overall) of last month's draft, ranked second in scoring for Division-III Whittier College last year as a senior, posting 47 points on 24 goals and 23 assists. He finished his career with 119 points (78G, 41A) in four seasons with the Poets. Prior to playing for Whittier, Gerbarg attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale.

Arizona also signed forward Jamie Pilon, the team's second choice in the 2007 draft (53rd overall, 4th round). Pilon ranked fourth in scoring for his hometown Brampton Excelsiors of the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Jr. A series in 2007 with 13 goals and 22 assists.

The Sting also inked draft pick Scott Janssen (69th overall, 5th round), a forward from Mercyhurst College, to a contract. Janssen was named to the 2007 East Coast Conference Second Team after notching 30 goals and 11 assists. A native of New Westminster, British Columbia, Janssen scored 34 points (12G, 22A) in 12 games for Burnaby of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) in 2007.
