New York Boulders News Release
(Newark, N.J.) - Ryan Scoma had two hits, including a home run, and scored three runs to lead a balanced Rockland Boulders attack past the Newark Bears 13-8 Wednesday at Riverfront Stadium.
All nine Rockland starters had at least one RBI, including two each for Chris Valencia, Ryan Mollica, Phil Cuadrado and Jon Smith, who also hit his fifth home run of the season. Landis Wilson had three hits as well.
The Boulders took advantage of three Newark errors in the top of the sixth, scoring four unearned runs to break a 3-3 tie and grab a 7-3 lead. The big blow in the inning was a two-run double by Cuadrado.
After Daryle Ward hit a two-run homer in the bottom of that inning to pull the Bears to within two, Rockland struck for five more in the seventh, including a two-run single by Mollica.
That was enough for Boulders' starter Dan Jurik (3-2), who picked up the win, giving up five runs (four earned) over his six innings of work.
Brian Parker (0-4) allowed three earned runs over his six innings, but was let down by his defense. In the sixth, Newark committed three errors, including two by Danny Santiesteban.
The Boulders look to take three out of four against the Bears on Thursday afternoon with Bobby Blevins on the hill for Rockland.
