June 27, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

In a back-and-forth game three, the Capitales got the best of Jackals' relief pitcher Jimmer Kennedy for the third straight time, scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth to take the rubber match of the three-game set 4-3.

On a beautiful, room-temperature Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium, the Capitales got the scoring started with an RBI single by Jonathan Malo in the top of the third. The Jackals answered in the bottom half of the frame when Angel Berroa hit an infield single to score Steve Caseres. An RBI single by Francisco Caraballo in the bottom of the fourth would give the Jackals their first lead of the game, but RBI singles by Sebastien Boucher and Malo in the fifth put the Capitales up 3-2.

Carlos Guzman's RBI single in the sixth would tie the game at three.

Kennedy, who has struggled against Quebec in recent past, gave up a leadoff double to Steve Brown in the eighth. Three batters later, Josh Colafemina brought Brown home for the Capitales' go-ahead run that would seal the deal on the 4-3 victory.

Starting for the Capitales was right-hander John Mariotti, who earns the win after throwing seven solid innings. Mariotti allowed all three Jackals runs on ten hits, striking out three and walking two.

TJ Stanton threw a perfect ninth, and earns his seventh save of the year. He sits three saves back of Newark Bears closer Jorge Vasquez.

Kyle Greenwalt went six innings for the home team and gets the no-decision, his fourth straight. He allowed three runs on six hits, also allowing two walks and three strikeouts.

With the win, the Capitales move to 26-13 on the season. They are now three-and-a-half games ahead of the Jackals in the Can-Am League standings and also lead the season series five games to four. The Jackals drop to 22-16 on the season and 700-600 all-time.

The two teams won't meet again until the Capitales come back to Little Falls on August 13th for a four-game set.

The Jackals finish their six-game home stand 2-4. Sandwiching an off-day, heir six-game road trip begins Friday when the Jackals head to Newark to face the last-place Bears. Steve Fox (5-1, 2.00) will take the hill for the Jackals. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
