Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

On Thursday night at Brent Brown Ballpark, the Grand Junction Rockies matched a season-high for wins in a season with a 6-5 win over the Orem Owlz, clinching the best record in the Pioneer League.

After a 23-15 first half, the Rockies finished the second half 20-18 and became the only team in the league to finish with a winning record in each half.

Yonathan Daza put the Rockies on top when he started the second inning with his fourth home run of the season, but Tyler Palmer put the Owlz on top with a 2-out, 3-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Omar Carrizales singled home Roberto Ramos in the fifth to cut the Owlz lead to a run.

Grand Junction took the lead in the seventh after Daza's 2-run single followed a Dom Nunez RBI double, but thanks to back-to-back triples in the bottom of the inning, the Owlz tied the game at 5, but Forrest Wall tripled home Carrizles with two out in the eighth inning to give the Rockies the lead again.

Yoely Bello worked around a single in the eighth and a one out error and single in the ninth to preserve the win. He got Fran Whitten to ground into a double play to end the game.

Javier Palacios held the Owlz to three runs in six innings, giving him 82 2/3 innings pitched for the season, a franchise record.

Daza had a three hit night, and finishes the season with a .370 average. Randy Reyes also had three hits, while Dom Nunez added a pair. Grand Junction finished the season hitting a league high .303 and scoring a league high 499 runs scored.
