
RockHounds Errors Help 'Riders End First Half Strong

Midland, Texas-In a performance that was reminiscent of Walter Matthau's "Bad News Bears", the RockHounds committed six errors (including three in one inning), to help the "ËRiders snap a three game losing streak 5-1 Tuesday night at Citibank Ballpark. With the win Frisco ends the first half with a 41-29 record.
The RoughRiders wasted little time getting on the scoreboard after a pair of defensive miscues by the RockHounds in the first. Following a lead-off single by Engel Beltre, Jurickson Profar reached after third baseman Josh Horton bobbled a groundball, then threw wide of first. Seeing the play develop, Engel Beltre raced home to make it 1-0 Frisco.
Two batters later Chris McGuiness turned a single into extra bases, after the ball was misplayed by leftfielder Luke Hughes. On the play Profar scored, while Val Majewski doubled home McGuiness to give the "ËRiders a three-run lead.
Midland got one of those runs back in the home half of the frame, but Frisco regained its three-run advantage in the third, after Leury Garcia walked and scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Mike Olt.
In the sixth the "ËRiders tacked on an additional run on three Midland errors. Following a two-out walk to Alex Buchholz, Val Majewski grounded a ball to first that was booted by Michael Spina. Rushing to the bag Spina's underhand toss to Gary Daley (7-4) was late, while the "ËHounds pitcher overthrew his third baseman Josh Horton when Buchholz took off for third. With the throw awry, the "ËRiders DH scooted home to make it 5-1.
Working in relief of spot starter Carlos Pimentel, the trio of Wilfredo Boscan (3-3), Miguel De Los Santos, and Joseph Ortiz combined on five scoreless innings.
Boscan picked up the win, working two innings and allowing one hit. Gary Daley suffered the loss, despite allowing only one earned run (five unearned). He allowed three hits, walked three, and punched out seven over 5.2 frames.
Frisco plays the third of four games against Midland Wednesday night. Nick Tepesch (0-0, 2.57) makes his second Texas League start for Frisco, he will be opposed by left-hander Fabio Castillo (-, -). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com.
