San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio - San Antonio looks to start off the second half of the season on a different note after falling to Corpus Christi 4-0 in 12 innings. All four of the Hooks' runs were scored in the 12 inning.

Missions' left-handed starter Andrew Werner pitched another gem, going seven scoreless innings, retiring 15 of the first 18 batters he faced. Werner also effectively saved a run from scoring after blindly snatching a sharp comebacker to throw out Jonathan Villar at first. Both teams were held to two hits each through three innings, quite a different story from last night's offensive outburst.

Neither team could get anything going offensively for a majority of the game as both teams combined for five hits through five innings. The Missions missed two straight double play opportunities in the fifth, only getting the force out at second both times.

San Antonio struggled to give Werner the run support he's been looking for all season, only mustering up five hits off of Hooks' starter Jarred Cosart. Tonight's outing was Werner's fifth seven-inning outing in which he has given up two or less earned runs. It was also the seventh time the Missions have scored two or less runs when Werner is the starting pitcher.

A Kody Hinze single to left field scored the winning run for the Hooks who scored an insurance run after a throwing error by Mission's third baseman Edinson Rincon. Villar then added two more runs on a single, bringing the lead to four. Corpus Christi sent 10 batters to the plate by the time the inning was over.

San Antonio ends the first half 28-42 overall and looks to rebound tomorrow night when Missions' starter Hayden Beard (4-4, 6.96 ERA) takes on Ross Seaton (5-3, 4.12 ERA) in the first game of the second half.
