Springfield Cardinals News Release

Midland, TX - The Midland RockHounds won a pitchers duel against the Springfield Cardinals, 3-0, to take the series finale before 4,321 fans at Security Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.

For the second straight game, both sides received excellent outings from their starters, with Cardinals RHP Andrew Morales and Midland RHP Parker Frazier dueling back and forth through the first six scoreless innings. Morales kept the Hounds (32-15, 67-50) to just five hits and two walks while striking out a pair through his six scoreless stanzas. Parker, though, countered with six scoreless of his own, limiting the Cardinals (24-23, 54-63) to five hits and four walks.

Midland RHP Andres Avila (W, 3-1) took over for the top of the seventh and dealt a 1-2-3 inning, before the RockHounds broke through in the bottom of the seventh against RHP Chris Perry (L, 1-3). With one away, DH Josh Whitaker, 2B Wade Kirkland and C Beau Taylor worked three consecutive walks to load the bases. CF Jaycob Brugman then drove a two-run double to right-center field, bringing in Whitaker and Kirkland for the game's first runs. Springfield elected to intentionally walk LF Colin Walsh, the former Cardinal, and bring in RHP Silfredo Garcia to face SS Chad Pinder. Garcia induced a fly out from Pinder, but it was deep enough for the sacrifice to bring in Taylor from third base and make it a 3-0 Midland lead.

Garcia got out of the rest of the seventh with no further damage, before dealing a scoreless eighth inning to keep the Cardinals close. However, RHP Brendan McCurry (S, 2) closed the door with a perfect top of the ninth, wrapping up the 3-0 win for the RockHounds.
