Rockford Tops Stars Again
January 19, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
The Rockford Ice Hogs beat the Stars for the second straight night. Friday night the Ice Hogs scored two early goals in route to a 4-2 victory, Saturday, it was a pair of late goals that were the difference makers as they once again won 4-2. The Stars have a day off before they hit the ice again. They will play Monday at Wells Fargo Arena at a special 5:05 start time as they host the Rochester Americans.
Rockford opened the scoring on a goal by Petri Kontiola, his 11th of the year. Kontiola's marker was the only goal of the first period.
A pair of penalties, including a five minute major put the Stars on a 5 on 3 power play entering the second period. Holtet picked up a power play goal to even the score at one. Rockford, however, responded just minutes later. Mike Blunden scored at 4:05 into the period to reassert Rockford's lead at 1. At the end of the second period the Stars picked up their second power play goal of the night. Konstantin Pushkarev scored his 7th of the season to once again even the score, this time at 2.
Rockford added two goals in the third period to put the game on ice. Kontiola scored his second of the night. Colin Fraser had the other goal in the period. Despite outshooting the Hogs 13-5 in the final period the Stars were never able to generate enough offense to bring the game any closer.
The Stars play two more games as a part of this seven game home stand. They play Monday at 5:05 against Rochester and then again on Friday at 7:07 against the Peoria Rivermen.
