P-Bruins Defeat Sharks 4-3

Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 4-3 Saturday evening at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Matt Lashoff, Nate Thompson, Jeff Hoggan and Martins Karsums. The 32-7-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back at home Sunday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center versus the Hartford Wolf Pack at 4:05 p.m. for T.J. Trevelyan Poster Night. Providence remains eight points ahead of the second place Pirates.

The Sharks got on the scoreboard first at the 8:27 mark of the opening period. Graham Mink took a shot and after P-Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet made the save the puck remained free just outside the crease. Tom Cavanaugh came up with it and scored top shelf for his ninth goal of the season. Riley Armstrong recorded the second assist. Providence tied the game at one at the 11:23 mark. Lashoff took a shot from just inside the blueline and with traffic in front the puck got past Worcester net minder Dimitri Patzold and into the net. Adam McQuaid and Matt Hendricks picked up the assists. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 14:59 mark. Hoggan carried the puck into the zone at the right point and fed it down the board to Aaron Slattengren. He sent a pass toward the crease and the puck went off of Thompson and into the net. The Sharks sent the game into the second intermission tied at two scoring with less than a second left on the game clock. Tomas Plihal tallied his fifth goal of the season with Ashton Rome and Tom Walsh getting the assists.

In the second period, the P-Bruins retook the lead at the 10:03 mark. With a pile of players in front of the net the puck was tipped past Patzold. The puck looked like it was going to come to rest before completely going cross the goal line, but it barely trickled into the net. Hoggan was credited with the goal, his 16th of the season, while T.J. Trevelyan and Wacey Rabbit grabbed the assists. Providence added another goal at the 17:42 mark. The P-Bruins had a 3-on-2 opportunity as Hendricks carried the puck into the zone. He sent it in front of the net to Slattengren, who took a shot, but Patzold made the save. The rebound went right to Karsums, who scored his 11th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, the Sharks pulled within a goal at the 11:32 mark. Rome scored his fourth goal of the season from the left face off circle, while T.J. Fox and Dan Spang picked up the assists. The P-Bruins continued to play solid on defense and get strong goaltending the rest of the game holding on for a 4-3 victory.

Sigalet stopped 29 of 32 shots for the P-Bruins, while Patzold made 36 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 0-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday for T.J.
