Rockford IceHogs News Release
Toronto, ONT- After going unbeaten during their first 12-games, the Toronto Marlies were handed their second straight loss. The Rockford IceHogs knocked off the Marlies 5-3 at the Ricoh Coliseum a night after Toronto had its unbeaten stretch snapped in Lake Erie. Hogs goalie Corey Crawford turned away 34 shots while Colin Fraser added two goals in the winning effort.
Two quick strikes put Rockford up midway through the first period. Center Colin Fraser registered his sixth goal of the campaign when he flipped a rebound past Toronto goalie Scott Clemmensen at 9:08.
Then just 46 seconds later, Martin St. Pierre extended his team season-high point streak to seven with a highlight film goal. St. Pierre made a spin-a-rama move to the left of Clemmensen, fell down and from his belly wrapped in his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Toronto cut Rockford's lead in half in the second period on two-on-one breakaway. Center Kris Newberry finished off a perfect cross-ice pass from David Ling at 9:38 for his sixth marker of the campaign. Rockford got the goal back, however, when rookie winger Jack Skille sniped his fourth tally of the season just under the cross bar while the IceHogs were on a power play at 15:54.
In the third period the Marlies tallied twice early to tie the game at 3-3. Jeremy Williams knocked in his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 2:07 before Colin Murphy tied it with a blast with the teams skating four-on-four at 3:30.
Rockford responded at 5:15 with another lamp lighter from Fraser. Winger Mike Blunden set Fraser up in front with Clemmensen stuck out of his net, putting the IceHogs up for good. Rockford received an insurance marker at 15:05 when Kris Versteeg deflected a Skille pass in to make it 5-3.
