October 28, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill. - After earning six points with three straight wins last weekend, the Rockford IceHogs will once again play all three days this weekend starting with a home-and-home series with Illinois Lottery Cup rival, the Chicago Wolves, Friday night in Rockford.

Game time is 7 p.m. and it's a Blues Flame Friday presented by District Bar & Grill. Doors leading to the Blue Flame Lounge, located in the main concourse at the BMO Harris Bank Center, open at 5:15 p.m. for fans 21-and-over. Patrons can enjoy live music from Recently Paroled along with free appetizers and exclusive drink specials. Fans must enter the BMO Harris Bank Center through the upper concourse entrance on Elm St. in order to attend Blues Flame Friday and a valid ticket to the IceHogs game is required.

It's also bobblehead election night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The first 2,500 fans to enter will be given the choice between a Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton bobblehead courtesy of Dental Dimensions. There are a limited amount of each presidential candidate so the first to run out of bobbleheads will be named the unofficial winner of the IceHogs straw poll for next month's election. Tickets can be purchased at the BMO Harris Bank Center Box Office or any Ticketmaster location, by phone (815) 968-5222 or online at www.icehogs.com and www.ticketmaster.com.

Fans unable to make the game can tune in to all the action on The Justice Network 23.3 beginning at 6:30 p.m. with IceHogs Warmup. IceHogs fans can also listen to the game at WXRX.com, sportsfanradio1330.com, or watch live at AHLlive.com.

With wins over previously undefeated Grand Rapids (4-1-0-0) and Milwaukee (3-0-0-1) along with Cleveland (3-2-0-0) the IceHogs (3-2-0-0) enter this weekend's contests on a three game winning streak. Chicago (2-3-0-0) is also on an upswing with two straight victories in San Antonio after losses to Milwaukee and Grand Rapids.

A key to Rockford's early season success can be attributed to their stinginess on both the penalty kill and from their men between the pipes. The IceHogs rank fifth best in the league at 94.1 percent when down a man and have only surrendered a goal on the penalty kill in the season opener.

Both Rockford goaltenders picked up their first wins of the season over the past weekend. Lars Johansson tallied his first career AHL win on Friday in Grand Rapids with 27 saves and outlasted Milwaukee the following evening in the shootout stopping both Matt White and Anthony Richard in the one-on-one competition to earn first star honors. In back-to-back games, Johansson posted a 1.44 goals against average with a .952 save percentage in 125 minutes in net. Mac Carruth closed out the weekend on Sunday with a victory over the Monsters to secure his 50th career professional win. Through five games, the IceHogs netminders have compiled a 1.97 GAA with a 0.929 SV%.

The IceHogs have seen an increased offensive scoring output after tallying only twice in Cleveland in the first week thanks to a power play that was perfect in Grand Rapids on Friday and 25 percent versus Cleveland on Sunday. Rockford currently ranks tied for 12th with the man advantage (4-for-22) while the Wolves sit at tied for 18th with a 14.3 percent conversion rate.

Friday's game will be the first of 12 regular season meetings against the Wolves followed by a trip to Rosemont on Saturday. Last season, the IceHogs captured the Illinois Lottery Cup after winning the season series with a 7-2-3-0 record for the second straight year and third overall since the inception of the Illinois Lottery Cup in the 2011-12 season.
