BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch took the lead less than two minutes into the game and could not be caught by the Binghamton Senators as they built towards a 4-3 victory tonight at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Gabriel Dumont lead scoring for the Crunch, putting up a goal and an assist. Adam Erne, Michael Bournival and Matthew Peca rounded out scoring the team. Syracuse kicked off their first three-in-three of the year with a victory and move to 3-2-0-0 on the season.

Crunch goaltender Adam Wilcox made 24 saves to record his second win of the season. Matt O'Connor stopped 27 of 31 between the pipes for the Senators. Both teams went 1-for-4 on the man-advantage.

The Crunch were first on the board just 1:59 into the first period. After receiving a pass from Jeremy Morin, Erne carried the puck into the zone, cut left and lit the lamp with wrist shot from the slot. Jake Dotchin recorded an assist on the play. Bournival then doubled the lead halfway through the frame. Dumont's tip was turned aside, but the rebound was left out in front of the cage for Bournival to backhand over O'Connor's shoulder.

The Senators finally responded with a power-play goal late in the first. Wilcox got a piece of Casey Bailey's shot from the left point, but Zack Stortini was there poke the puck across the goal line.

Syracuse opened the middle frame with two goals in 25 seconds. Just 39 seconds into the period, Peca netted his third of the season from the high slot with the help of Joel Vermin and Dylan Blujus while on the man-advantage. Seconds later, Dumont cleaned up the rebound of Henri Ikonen's right wing shot. Daniel Walcott earned a point on the goal.

At the 6:11 mark of the second, the Senators got one back. Kyle Flanagan slipped a cross-slot pass through a Crunch defender for Max McCormick to send home.

The Senators went on to pull within one four minutes into the final period. Phil Varone beat Wilcox over his shoulder on the short side, but the Crunch staved off a comeback to win the first game of the 10-game season series.

The Crunch return to the War Memorial Arena tomorrow to host the Providence Bruins at 7 p.m.
