MCALLEN, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that their parent club, the Houston Rockets, has recalled power forward/center Patrick Patterson (6-9, 235, Kentucky).

In nine games (nine starts), Patterson averaged a team-best 18.3 points (15th in the league), 10.3 rebounds (2nd in the league) and 1.6 blocks (12th in the league). Patterson recorded double-doubles in each of his last four games, averaging 21.0 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks over the span. Patterson is tied for the league-lead in double-doubles with five, and is one of only three players in the league averaging a double-double.

"We were aggressive in sending Patrick to the NBA Development League early because of our belief in development through playing and because of the strong confidence we have in Patrick and the Vipers' coaching staff. In addition, an opportunistic break in the schedule for both the Vipers and the Rockets made it beneficial for both sides. We set up strategic performance guidelines for Patrick to focus on during his stay and he successfully surpassed those over the last nine games with the Vipers. So, as a result, we are excited about his return to the Houston Rockets," said Vipers General Manager Gersson Rosas, who is also the Rockets Vice President of Player Personnel.

Patterson was assigned to the Vipers on November 9 after he was on the inactive list for the Rockets' first six games. He averaged 4.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 15.2 minutes in six games for the Rockets during the pre-season, and 9.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in five games (four starts) for the Rockets during the 2010 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Selected after his junior season at Kentucky by Houston in the first round (14th overall) as an early entry candidate in the 2010 NBA Draft, Patterson finished his three-year career at Kentucky with averages of 16.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.57 blocks in 97 career games (97 starts). He was one of five Wildcats picked in the opening round of the 2010 NBA Draft, which was the first time five players from one school were chosen in the first round of the draft. Patterson became the 10th fastest player to reach the 1,000-point club at UK (58 games). He was a two- time All-SEC First-Team pick as a junior and sophomore, as well as a Second-Team selection as a freshman. Patterson earned First-Team All-SEC, AP Honorable Mention All-America, USBWA All-District IV Team and NABC All-District 21 Second-Team honors as a junior.
