Rockets Hold off Everett in OT

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Everett Silvertips 6-5 in overtime on Wednesday night in Everett in a wild game at the XFinity Arena in Everett.

Justin Kirkland scored the game-winning-goal on an end-to-end rush, snapping home his 25th goal of the season and giving the Rockets its 42nd win of the season.

Kelowna jumped ahead 5-1 in the game, scoring four times in the second period, before Everett answered back in the third, scoring four times of its own to send the game to overtime.

Tyson Baillie and Calvin Thurkauf each had two goals for the Rockets while Tomas Soustal also scored. Joe Gatenby chipped in with two assists.

The win improved the Rockets record to 42-16-3-0 and moved them back into first place overall in the WHL, one point ahead of Victoria.

The Rockets now need eight wins in their last 11 games to become the first team in CHL history to win 50 games for four consecutive years.

Kelowna is back in action on Friday night in Vancouver before returning to Prospera Place on Saturday night when they host the Spokane Chiefs.
