Rockets Drop 4-3 Decision to Tri City

The Kelowna Rockets and Tri City Americans gave Kelowna fans plenty of entertainment Wednesday night in Kelowna, but it was the Americans who skated away with two points.

The Rockets led 2-1 and 3-2 in the game but the Americans scored twice in the third period to earn their third win in a row to open the WHL season. Kelowna is now 0-and-2 heading to Tri-City where the two teams will meet again Friday night.

After a back and forth first two periods, Kelowna held a 3-2 lead heading to the third period. The Rockets couldn't hold the lead as Tri City scored twice to capture the win. Seconds after goalie Adam Brown made a great save Patrick Holland was able to convert a centreing pass to tie the game. Connor Rankin scored just under two minutes later to make the score 4-3 and the Rockets couldn't muster a tying goal.

Tri-City scored the game's first goal when Adam Hughesman scored on a power play just over five minutes into the first period, converting a rebound in front of the Kelowna net. The Rockets Brett Bulmer scored his second goal of the season when he redirected a point shot behind Tri City starter Drew Owsley to make the score 1-1 after the first period.

The Rockets maintained an aggressive game in the second period and the results showed as the team scored twice to take a 3-2 lead after two periods. Evan Bloodoff and Antoine Corbin scored for the Rockets in the middle frame, sandwiching a goal by the Americans' Holland.

The two teams will meet again Friday night in Tri-City with the Rockets looking to earn its first win of the season and the Americans looking to go 4-and-0.
