Rockets Deal Stadel to Oil Kings
January 6, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets have dealt forward Riley Stadel to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a conditional 5th round pick in 2018.
Stadel was in his 5th full season with the Rockets. He was originally a 3rd round bantam draft pick by the Rockets in 2011.
The trade came following a trade earlier in the day that sent Jordan Borstmayer to the Vancouver Giants.
"Because of the acquisition of another twenty year old, we had to make room to get back down to three. This was an extremely tough decision for us. Riley has been a heart and soul guy for us for a long time now," said Rockets General Manager Bruce Hamilton. "He epitomizes what a good guy and a great teammate is. He has impeccable character and this is a significant loss. It won't be easy news for his teammates to hear."
Stadel played in 270 games for the Rockets, recording 29 goals and 76 assists for 105 points. He racked up 298 PIMs and has a +46 +/- rating. Stadel also amassed 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points in 61 playoff games.
