
Rocket goalie ties WHL mark

Calgary, Alberta -- With Kelowna Rockets' goaltender Kelly Guard recording his tenth shutout Saturday night in a 6-0 victory over the visiting Portland Winter Hawks, he tied the Western Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League single season record of most shutouts in a single season.
The CHL and WHL record was previously held by Chris Worthy of the Flin Flon Bombers. The former Edmonton Oiler netminder in the World Hockey Association recorded ten with the Bombers during the 1967-68 campaign.
Guard, the 20-year old goaltender from Prince Albert has recorded 33 wins, nine losses and four ties in 46 games this season. His goals against average of 1.59, his .925 save percentage and 33 victories are all tops in the WHL.
