Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Mallards dropped their first game of the homestand three games deep against the Green Bay Rockers by a final of 12-6 from Warner Park on Friday night.

The Mallards got on the board first with a single from Liam Moreno (2-4, RBI, BB) in the bottom of the 1st off Rockers' starter Will Semb. After the four hit 1st, Semb was able to work around ten total hits while allowing four runs to keep the Mallards' offense to bay during Green Bay's nine run blitz in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. The Ducks gave the ball to the right hander from the University of Louisville, Kyle Walter. Walter (2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 3 K) allowed three doubles, including two to the first two batters of the game, but also walked a game-high five. Madison would go on to use five pitchers and one position player to finish out the blowout loss. That included the debuts of J.J. Baez and Reed Butz, Bryce Leedle, Gauge Lockhart, and then Jack Merrifield. Leedle allowed two baserunners in the top of the 5th after entering for Butz but struck out the side. The Mallards dished out 17 free passes tonight which reads as a season-high. Three different pitchers punched out three Rockers throughout the contest as the staff recorded 12 total.

The Mallards' offense gets multi-hit performances from J.J. Wetherholt, Liam Moreno, and Christian Rivera. Rivera drove in two runs on a double in the bottom of the 6th inning. Green Bay was led by their left fielder Griffin Stevens (4-5, 2 R, 3B) who knocked in six runs out of the three-hole.

The Mallards wrap up the long home stand with two games against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Game action can be found under the 'Live Action' tab on the Northwoods League website at 5:48 PM for pregame show coverage and a 6:08 first pitch.
