Loggers Come Back to Beat Larks, 10-9

La Crosse Loggers News Release

The La Crosse Loggers eked out a come-from-behind victory last night against the Bismarck Larks to capture game-two of the series.

Joshua Alpough (Montevallo) pitched brilliantly for the Larks, taking a no-hitter into the 5th inning. After a single by Ace Whitehead (Texas) and a flurry of walks, Alpough's book was closed early. He finished with 4.2 scoreless innings of work.

Once the Loggers broke into the Larks bullpen, their offense came alive via the free pass, drawing a franchise-record 16 total walks. After being down 8-0, the Loggers were able to hang a crooked 8 runs in the 6th frame, tying the game.

The messy inning, filled with wild pitches and passed balls, came back to haunt the Larks down the stretch. In the 7th, Ace Whitehead walked and came around to score on an error. Xavier Casserilla (Wichita State) then recorded an RBI single, plating Emilio Corona (Arizona) for another insurance run.

The Larks tried to mount a comeback in the final innings but fell short at the hands of Grady Gorgen (Troy), who has been dominant all season. The southpaw pitched well in his new closing role, tossing a scoreless 9th and registering his second save of the summer.

Both teams will return to Copeland Park this evening for the third game of the four-game series. At the conclusion of the game, a "Fireworks Extravaganza" will be put on, presented by Morrie's Auto Group.

The first pitch is slated for 6:35pm CT on the north side of La Crosse. Fans can watch live at https://northwoodsleague.com/watch-nwl/ or listen live at https://mixlr.com/lacrosseloggers.
