Rockers Snap Blue Crabs Win Streak in Heated Battle

June 19, 2021 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

(High Point, NC) After four straight wins to turn around Southern Maryland's season, the High Point Rockers snapped the Blue Crabs win streak on Saturday evening in a 4-1 victory.

Defense and clean baseball ruled the first half of Saturday night's game. Both starting pitchers gave up just one run in the contest, each coming on a solo homer. Michael Russell, the Rockers third baseman homered off of Austin Glorius (ND) in the first inning, and David Harris responded with a solo shot in the second.

After five innings of excellence, Glorius was replaced by Greyfer Eregua (L, 0-1) who allowed a pair of Rockers runs in the sixth. Edwin Arroyo and Russell each drove in one run, putting the Rockers on top 3-1.

Following the bottom of the seventh inning the game was delayed for 20 minutes due to multiple benches clearing altercations. The Blue Crabs played peacemaker and didn't receive any ejections, while the Rockers' Russell was tossed from the game. On the other end of the delay, the Rockers tacked on another insurance run thanks to a James McOwen RBI triple.

There was no late inning magic in the Blue Crabs bats on Saturday evening, as their four-game win streak came to a halt in a 4-1 Rockers victory. On Sunday at 5:05 PM, the Blue Crabs will put Sam Burton on the mound in a series deciding finale.
