High Point Rockers News Release
In the final game of their four game home series, the High Point Rockers defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-1.
Shortstop Giovanny Alfonzo was the first Rocker to score this evening following a passed ball by Blue Crab's catcher Charlie Valerio. First basemen Stephen Cardullo made his way home the next after a sacrifice fly by third basemen Hector Gomez.
Cardullo gave the Rockers a commanding lead with his two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Alfonzo too.
Starting pitcher Dominic DeMasi threw 51 strikes and four strikeouts before Chase Huchinson was called to relieve him at the top of the sixth. Hutchinson and Ryan Kelly combined for four strikeouts in two innings out of the bullpen.
The High Point defense was ever present with second basemen Richie Shaffer, Alfonzo and Cardullo joining forces for a double play early in the fourth inning. Catcher Matt Jones had an impressive throw to second base early in the second inning.
With their win tonight, the Rockers take the home series and add to their overall record which currently sits at 51-41.
