New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - Chris Parmelee's single to left-field with two outs in the 11th inning brought in the winning run as the Rock Cats defeated New Hampshire, 7-6, in the day portion of today's Day/Night doubleheader at New Britain Stadium. Parmelee's line drive plated Deibinson Romero who had led the extra frame with single, before being bunted into scoring position by Brian Dozier.
This afternoon's action was viewed by 6,201 fans, the 17th Sellout gathering of the year in the Hardware City.
The opener of what was already scheduled to be a long day of baseball in New Britain - the two teams will play again tonight at 6:05 - appeared to be over when New Hampshire took a 6-4 lead going in the 7th and final scheduled inning. With runners at second and third and two out in the 6th, the Fisher Cats' Adeiny Hechavarria chopped a high bounder behind second base that New Britain's Chris Cates fielded, twisted and tossed to first. Hechavarria beat the throw, however - it was his fourth hit of the day - and both 2 runners scored on the play. The Rock Cats responded in what was to have been their last turn at bat. After Nate Hanson opened the inning with a single, Brian Dozier and Joe Benson followed with hits to make it 6-5. With Parmelee batting and Dozier at third, New Hampshire reliever Matt Daly uncorked a wild pitch that enabled Dozier to score the tying run. Neither team would score again until Parmelee's heroics four innings later.
Earlier, the Rock Cats had jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Benson - who had 4 hits and 3 RBI on the day - cracked a 2-run Home Run off Fisher Cats' starter Yohan Pino in the 1st inning. The home team extended the lead to 3-0 when Romero doubled home Nate Hanson in the 2nd. New Hampshire chipped away with one in the 3rd and three more in the 5th before moving ahead in the 6th.
The fourth New Britain reliever, Tyler Robertson, picked up the victory after pitching a scoreless 11th and improved his record to 7-3. Southpaw reliever Frank Gailey (0-3) suffered the loss for New Hampshire.
