New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - Erie's Jeff Frazier delivered an RBI single in the top of the tenth and Deik Scram tacked on a two-run double as the Seawolves downed the Rock Cats, 5-2.
The Rock Cats appeared to have its seventh straight victory wrapped out in the ninth inning. Erie's Wilkin Ramirez led off with a single off closer Ben Julianel, but was thrown out trying to steal second. Julianel then walked Frazier and allowed a single to Deik Scram to put runners on the corners. Another walk - this time to Santo De Leon - loaded the bases. Shawn Roof then hit into what appeared would be a game-ending doubleplay, but Roof reached base safely on an error by second baseman Brian Dinkelman. Frazier scored on the miscue to tie the game, 2-2.
The late comeback by the Seawolves erased a pitcher's duel by Rock Cats starter Ryan Mullins and Erie's Guillermo Moscoso.
Mullins limited the Seawolves to one run on five hits while striking out seven. Moscoso was equally impressive as he scattered four hits in seven innings. He struck out eight.
Erie took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice RBI by Shawn Roof. The Rock Cats answered back in the third. Brandon Roberts reached base on a walk, stole second, and moved to third on a groundout by Matt Tolbert. Roberts then scored on a sac fly by Brian Dinkelman that tied the game.
In the fourth, Danny Valencia was brushed back at the plate and immediately crushed the next pitch to deep center field for a triple. Valencia then scored on a single by Dinkelman to put the Rock Cats, 2-1.
Jose Mijares and Robert Delaney each added a scoreless inning in relief - with Mijares striking out the side in the seventh - to keep the Rock Cats in the lead. Frank Mata (1-1, 8.17) suffered the loss after allowing the three runs in the tenth.
Josh Kite came away with the win after tossing two shutout innings in relief. Angel Castro picked up the save.
Felix Molina left the game with a leg injury in the bottom of the second. Molina hit a double to center field, but pulled up while running from first to second.
