Rochester Red Wings News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - Rochester Red Wings' outfielder Wilkin Ramirez today was named International League Player of the Week for the week of August 27-September 3. He batted .367 (11-for-30) with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored in seven games.

Ramirez, who was signed by the Minnesota Twins as a minor-league free agent last November, also hit .350 (41-for-117) with nine doubles, five homers, and 26 RBI in 30 games beginning August 1. He ranked second in the IL in RBI in that time, two behind Empire State Yankee infielder Corban Joseph. The 26-year-old also ranked second in the IL in hitting in that span, trailing only Indianapolis (Pirates) infielder Brock Holt, who batted .432 (41-for-95) in six fewer games.

Ramirez led the Red Wings in 2012 with 54 RBI despite joining the team May 15. He took over the team lead with his run-scoring double in the first inning of yesterday's regular-season finale vs. Syracuse (Nationals). Nearly half of his RBI came beginning August 1. The Dominican Republic native batted .276 with 18 doubles and 15 homers in 98 games overall. He ranked second on club in homers, two behind Chris Parmelee.

Ramirez is the fourth Red Wing to earn IL Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season, joining Parmelee (July 30-August 5) and right-handed pitchers Liam Hendriks (June 4-10) and Jeff Manship (July 16-22).

The Red Wings in 2012 finished 72-72, winning 19 more games than last year and 23 more than in 2010. It was their first non-losing season since going 74-70 in 2008.
