Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
MOOSIC, PA - Members of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees' front office have decided to go casual on Fridays, but it has nothing to do with work ethic.
Employees have been dressing down each week, though at a $5 cost each Friday that benefits a good cause. Each month, one staff member chooses a local charity, and all funds raised from casual Fridays in that month benefit the selected organization.
Community Relations Manager Ryan Beardsley chose the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Clarks Summit as the August benefactor. The SWB Yankees will present the animal shelter with a check for $190 at 11 a.m. Friday, September 7, at the organization's headquarters, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit.
Griffin Pond, established as the Humane Society of Lackawanna County, provides shelter for homeless, unwanted and abused animals.
"I am a huge advocate of providing unwanted pets with a safe and loving home, so the services and programs offered by the Griffin Pond Animal shelter are ones I believe in strongly," Beardsley said. "My wife and I have our own rescue dog, and we can both attest that the rewards of adopting pets are infinite."
According to the Humane Society, Griffin Pond takes in about 6,000 animals a year, many of which get a second chance due to their adoption program. The Humane Society also provides educational programs that teach children to be "kind to all animals and respect the living environment."
Beverly Bright, Development Coordinator for Griffin Pond, said she was excited to hear the SWB Yankees were willing to raise funds for the shelter.
"The shelter is always thankful for donations received," Bright said. "Food and supplies help the staff to care for the hundreds of animals residing at the shelter until they find their forever homes."
