Rochester Red Wings News Release
Gwinnett Braves (28-41) @ Rochester Red Wings (32-36)
Frontier Field - Rochester, NY - 7:05 p.m.
RHP David Hale (1-3, 6.12) vs. RHP Kyle Gibson (6-5, 3.16)
TONIGHT'S GAME: Every Red Wings starter picked up at least one hit and five had multi-hit nights led by Dan Rohlfing's four knocks as the Wings outslugged the Gwinnett Braves, 12-8, Friday night to earn their second straight win. Tonight, the Wings will seek a third consecutive win over the Braves with RHP Kyle Gibson on the mound in game three of the series... Rochester has won 12 of their last 18 games and have moved within 6.0 games of the wild-card leading Norfolk Tides. The Wings actually fell to 8.0 GB in the North after Pawtucket swept a doubleheader from Buffalo... Meanwhile, Gwinnett, Atlanta's top affiliate, has dropped to 4-9 in the month of June but are still 16-16 in their last 32 games since a season-high 14-game losing streak 4/27-5/11.
WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:
-Will earn their 4th series win of the season and 2nd in the last week against Gwinnett.
-Will move within 3 games of the .500 mark for the first time since April 11 when the Wings were 2-5.
-Will improve to 19-18 at home this season -- the first time they have been over the .500 mark at home this season.
GIBSON GOING GOOD: The Wings will hand the ball to RHP Kyle Gibson on Saturday night who has won his last four decisions and now owns 6 wins on the year -- T-4th most in the IL... Over his last five starts, Gibby is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA (9 ER/36.0 IP) and 4 quality starts... The combination of Andrew Albers and Gibson are 11-7 with a 3.09 ERA (53 ER/154.1 IP) this season... The rest of the Red Wings starters are 10-15 with a 4.91 ERA while the other three starters in the Wings current rotation are 3-6 with a 6.49 ERA (49 ER/68.0 IP)... The duo has won their last nine decisions over 11 combined starts while recording two complete-game shutouts and posting eight quality starts. The last loss for either hurler was Gibson's May 14 loss vs DUR.
-In his last start, Gibson allowed a tied for career-high 5 walks despite allowing just one run on 4 hits in 7 innings vs TOL .
-Gibson allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings in a win against Gwinnett on 6/4
PLOUFFE, THERE HE GOES: INF Trevor Plouffe was reinstated from the Twins disabled list on Saturday ending his rehab stint with the Red Wings. In four games with Rochester, Plouffe went 5-for-15 with a homer and 3 RBI... He went 2-for-5 Friday night including a pair of hard-hit line drive outs to left field. Plouffe, hampered by a concussion and calf strain, hasn't appeared in a game with Minnesota since May 21... To make room for Plouffe, the Twins optioned C/OF Chris Herrmann back to Rochester. Herrmann had a nice stint in Minnesota going 6-for-13 with a home run, double and 4 RBI in 7 games (3 starts). In his first taste of the Big Leagues last September, Herrmann went just 1-for-18 in 7 games.
AMONG BASEBALL'S BEST: 1B/OF Chris Colabello continued his magical season Friday collecting two more hits (his 4th straight multi-hit game) including his 13th home run of the season and first since May 20 at Lehigh Valley. The solo shot came off southpaw Yohan Flande in the 3rd inning -- his first homer off a lefty this season... Since being optioned back to Rochester on Monday, Colabello is 9-for-16 with 2 doubles, a homer, 3 runs and 6 RBI in 4 games as he has raised his average to .369 -- the 2nd-best mark in all of baseball (MiLB & MLB). He trails only Corey Dickerson of Colorado Springs (AAA; Rockies) who is batting .374 on the year... Colabello's batting 21 points higher than anyone else in the IL, his .655 SLG% is 50 points better than his closest competitor in the league and his 1.086 OPS is 92 points higher than the next best mark. Only BAL's Chris Davis has a higher OPS (1.114) and SLG (.695) in all of baseball than Colabello.
-Through two weeks of fan voting, Colabello is the top vote-getter among all IL position players.
-Colabello is riding a 15-game home hitting streak over which he's batting .483 (28-58) with 4 HR and 17 RBI.
-Colabello has a hit in 29 of his last 31 games with the Wings and has reached base in 21 straight games with Rochester.
ROHLFING ROLLING: Dan Rohlfing has made the transition from New Britain (AA) to Rochester look easy as the 24-year-old is hitting .383 (18-for-47) in his first 14 Triple-A games after his third career 4-hit game Friday night against Gwinnett. Rohlfing also tied a career-high with 7 total bases as he picked up a triple and a double Friday... He is raking against lefties, especially, going 13-for-27 with all 3 of his XBH's against southpaws. Rohlfing became the 4th Wings player (Arcia, Colabello & Hanson) to homer in their Triple-A debut this season when he took LHV's Raul Valdes deep on May 29.
MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:
-When Clete Thomas was promoted on 6/3 he was the only Wings player with a 3-R homer. After Drew Butera's three-run shot on Friday, three players (Clement, Romero & Butera) have hit one in the last 11 games.
-The Wings went 5-for-11 with RISP and are now 9-for-21 in the series... The Wings had just 4 hits w/ RISP in the TOL series.
-The Wings have scored 15 runs on 17 hits in 5.0 innings against GWN starter Yohan Flande this season.
