Norfolk, VA - The Louisville Bats (33-35) swept the Norfolk Tides (38-30) on Friday night, 5-3 in game one and 1-0 in game two. The Bats swept a doubleheader for the first time since 2011 when they beat Durham at Louisville Slugger Field. It is the first road sweep since 2008.

Game One

The top of the order scored four of Louisville's five runs including three in the third inning to take game one 5-3 over Norfolk Friday evening.

Louisville jumped on the board in the top of the first when Henry Rodriguez hit an RBI-single that scored Billy Hamilton after Hamilton singled and stole second, his 41st stolen base of the season. Norfolk countered in the bottom of the inning when Russ Canzler hit a sacrifice fly to score L.J. Hoes and tie it at 1-1.

Josh Fellhauer and Rodriguez reached base in the third via a single and fielding error, then Fellhauer scored on a Mike Hessman double. Denis Phipps came to the plate and doubled to left field, scoring both Rodriguez and Hessman giving Louisville a 4-1 lead.

Louisville starter Daniel Corcino (W, 3-9) had a great game going through the fifth inning before giving up a 2-run homerun to Hoes, trimming the Louisville lead 4-3. With two outs, Corcino walked Jason Pridie and gave up the homerun on a 3-2 count to Hoes. Corcino left after the fifth, only giving up three hits and three runs with four strikeouts.

Emmanuel Burriss singled and scored on veteran Corky Miller's double, giving Louisville an insurance run in the sixth as Yohan Pino came on to pitch. Pino (S, 6) gave up one hit in two innings to pick up the save. Josh Stinson (L, 3-3) pitched 5.1 innings for Norfolk, giving up nine hits and five runs while striking out four and walking two.

Denis Phipps finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and 2-RBI's. Miller was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Hamilton's hit extended his hit streak to six games.

Game Two

All the Bats needed was one hit, one baserunner and one run to sweep the Tides 1-0 on Friday night. Tides starter Jair Jurrjens pitched a complete game, throwing six out of a possible seven perfect innings. Louisville starter Armando Galarraga matched Jurrjens in each frame, allowing no runs and only three hits.

Jason Donald played spoiler as he doubled off Jurrjens (L, 4-4) in the top of the sixth. Donald was the same player who broke up Galarraga's controversial perfect game in the majors back in 2010. Nevin Ashley bunted Donald over to third and Kristopher Negron scored him on a perfectly placed sacrifice fly which gave the Bats the deciding 1-0 lead. Jurrjens went the full seven innings, only allowing the hit and the run while striking out three.

Galarraga (W, 5-4) pitched a stellar five innings, giving up three hits while striking out five. Kevin Whelan (H, 3) entered in the sixth and proceeded to walk Jason Pridie and L.J. Hoes. Zelous Wheeler flew out to center field which should have allowed Pridie to tag and take third base, but a baserunning gaff left him standing at second.

Whelan then struck out Russ Canzler and Chris Snyder swinging to get out of the jam and end the Norfolk threat. Newly acquired Zach Duke (S, 1) entered in the seventh and pitched a perfect frame, picking up his first Triple-A save of his career.

All of Jurrjens' strikeouts came at the expense of Billy Hamilton who was 0-for-3 in the game. Donald had the lone hit and Negron the lone RBI, the only offensive statistics for the Bats in the game.

The Bats and Tides go at it again Saturday night with Louisville's RHP Greg Reynolds (7-0, 2.51) looking for his eighth win. His 7-0 start is the best by a Bats organization pitcher since 1984. A starter has not been announced for Norfolk. First pitch is at 7:05pm, the Bats pre-game show begins at 6:35pm with Matt Andrews and Nick Curran on Sports Radio 790.
