The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost a tight ballgame to the Toledo Mud Hens on Saturday, 2-1. Syracuse led early on but was unable to score after the fourth inning.

Syracuse (27-39) scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Mike Costanzo drew a one-out walk, Will Rhymes grounded out to first base, moving Costanzo to second. The next batter, Zach Walters, launched a double into left field, driving in his fourth run in just two nights to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

The Chiefs' lead lasted mere minutes as Toledo (29-41) plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Mike Cervenak led off the inning with a single into left field. After a Danny Worth strikeout, Bryan Holaday lined a base hit into left field, advancing Cervenak to second base. Argenis Diaz followed with the third base hit of the inning, loading the bases for Avisail Garcia. Garcia then ripped a single into center field, plating Cervenak from third. Brandon Douglas followed by dropping a bunt down the third-base line, scoring Holaday from third to give the Mud Hens a one-run lead.

Chiefs starter Jeff Mandel tossed seven innings of two-run ball, but the Syracuse bats were slowed by Mud Hens pitcher Shawn Hill. He hurled seven innings, giving up just one run.

The Chiefs and Mud Hens wrap up the series with the fourth and final game on Sunday afternoon at 2:00. Syracuse will send right-hander Yunesky Maya against right-hander Derek Hankins for Toledo.
