SLUGGING IT OUT: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the 2nd game of their 4-game series vs. Louisville (Reds), which is making its lone regular-season visit to the Flower City. Following 3 with Louisville, the Red Wings welcome the Gwinnett Braves to town for a 4-game set Saturday-Tuesday. Then it's Rochester's 2nd scheduled offday on Wednesday before hitting the road for a pair of 4-game series at Gwinnett and Charlotte (White Sox) May 24-31.
a The Red Wings' May 22 game vs. Gwinnett at 11:05 a.m. will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports and simulcast nationally on MLB Network.
a The Red Wings yesterday began a stretch of playing 40 consecutive games against interdivision foes through June 25. They'll return to North Division competition June 26-29 at Lehigh Valley (Phillies).

CHANGE OF FORTUNE: The Red Wings snapped their 6-game losing streak with a 5-4 win in last night's series opener vs. Louisville. Rochester won a series-opening game for the 6th time in 12 tries. The Wings are 3-1-1 in their 5 series with a first-game victory. The lone series loss came vs. Pawtucket April 11-13.
a Last night's win was the Red Wings' first in their last at-bat, first after trailing through 7 innings, and 7th in come-from-behind fashion overall. The 3-run deficit was the largest they've overcome as well.
a The Red Wings last night banged out a season-high 12 hits for the 2nd game in a row, matching their effort from the series finale at Syracuse (Nationals) Monday.

ROSTER NEWS: The Minnesota Twins yesterday optioned infielder Chris Parmelee to Rochester. The left-handed hitter, who was the Twins' first-round pick (20th overall) in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, was batting .179 with 5 doubles and 3 RBI, and 21 strikeouts in 27 games. Parmelee was hitless in his last 13 at-bats with Minnesota. His most recent hit was May 7 against the Angels at Target Field, a 5th-inning single off Jered Weaver. Parmelee last year made the jump to Minnesota straight from Double-A New Britain.
a 36 players have appeared in at least one game for the Red Wings, including 21 position players and 15 pitchers. Rochester has also used 9 different starting pitchers. Just 14 of the 25 players on the Opening Day roster are still active with the club. Those on the current roster who have yet to appear in a game are Matt Maloney and Lester Oliveros.

The outfielder is batting .324 (11-for-34) with 4 doubles and 7 runs scored during the tear, raising his average to .288 from .275. It is Carson's longest hitting streak since a 12-gamer July 6-21, 2011 with Triple-A Sacramento (A's).
a Carson leads the Red Wings with 13 extra-base hits, 11 doubles, and 17 runs scored in a team-high 36 games. He also leads current Wings with 15 walks. (Aaron Bates, who was released Monday, walked 18 times.)
UNCLE BEN'S HEATING UP: Ben Revere has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games, batting .429 (15-for-35) in that time to raise his average to .322 from .255. The left-handed hitter has registered 6 multi-hit efforts during that span while not striking out once in 36 plate appearances.

THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 1965, Hall of Famer Jim Palmer picks up his first career major league win, tossing 3.2 innings of relief in the Orioles' 7-5 victory over the Yankees. He also homered in the game, a 2-run shot in the 4th that tied the score at 4-4.
