DAY AT THE PARK: The Rochester Red Wings today close out their 4-game series at Columbus (Indians), continuing an 8-game roadtrip that also includes a 4-game set at Toledo (Tigers) after tomorrow's offday. Rochester returns to Frontier Field Monday for a 6-game homestand, which includes a 4-game series against Empire State (Yankees) and a 2-game set against Pawtucket (Red Sox).

GENE, GENE MADE A MACHINE: The Red Wings last night picked up their 54th victory to eclipse their win total from all of last year with 34 games to go. The 2011 club went 53-91 and it was 22 games under .500 at 44-66 at this point last season. The 2010 team was 32 games below .500 at 39-71 at this juncture and went on to finish only 49-95.

a Rochester is off to its best 110-game start since the 2007 squad was 59-51.

CAN'T LIE ABOUT JULY: The Red Wings are 17-11 in July, good for the 2nd-best record in the International League in that time. The list of the Top 5:

a With a 17-11 record and one game remaining in July, the Red Wings have guaranteed themselves their 2nd straight winning calendar month. The Wings went 15-14 in June and will post back-to-back winning calendar months for the first time since June and July 2007, when they went 16-15 and 18-13, respectively.

a The 17 wins this month are the club's most in a calendar month since August 2009, when they went 17-15. A victory today would give Rochester its most in a calendar month since going 20-9 in August 2008.

QUITE THE TURNAROUND: The Red Wings are just 4-7 in their last 11 games, but are still 34-26 since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28. Going back further, Rochester is 40-33 beginning May 15 and 45-40 beginning May 3.

ROAD TO SUCCESS: The Red Wings have won 2 straight road games and a victory today would match their season-best road winning streak of 3 from July 17-19. Rochester has won 6 of their last 10 road contests and 7 of their last 12 road affairs.

a The Red Wings are still just 18-30 in true road games. Rochester has won only 2 road series all year, winning 3 of 4 games at Louisville (Reds) June 14-17 and at Norfolk July 16-19. A victory today would give the Red Wings their 3rd road series win.

GRANDIOSE OCCASION: Rene Rivera last night hit the Red Wings' first grand slam since Justin Huber turned the trick August 10, 2009 at Buffalo, snapping a streak of 427 consecutive games without one. Rochester hasn't hit a grand slam at Frontier Field since Trevor Plouffe accomplished the feat August 30, 2008. That grand slam drought is currently at 281 games.

a The Red Wings have homered at least once in 5 straight games (9 total). Their season-high homer streak is 8 games from June 14-21.

SERIES BUSINESS: By going 5-2 thus far against Columbus, the Red Wings have ensured themselves of their 4th season series win of 2012. They also posted wins against Charlotte (5-3), Louisville (6-2), and Norfolk (6-2). The Red Wings had only one season series victory in all of 2011, going 5-3 against Louisville. They had none in 2010. The 2009 club had 6.

BEING BULLISH: Since being touched for 10 runs in 6.1 innings Thursday vs. Syracuse (Nationals), the Red Wings' bullpen has allowed just 2 runs (one earned) in 11.2 innings in the last 4 games. The recent success has lowered the bullpen's ERA to 3.75 from 3.84.

PICKING UP THE PACE: Since managing only one hit Thursday vs. Syracuse, the Red Wings' offense has logged 10 or more hits in 3 straight games. They are batting .336 (40-for-119) in that time. Rochester collected 10 or more hits in a season-high 4 games in a row June 20-23.

PERFECT TEN: Chris Parmelee went 3-for-5 yesterday at Columbus to extend his hitting streak a season-high 10 games, batting .405 (17-for-42). He has also hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games, batting .377 (23-for-61). A hit today would tie Danny Valencia's team season-high hitting streak of 11 from May 14-27.
